Featuring Brent Jarvis on piano, Scott White on bass, and John Lee on drums, the band will present compositions by Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, James Moody, Ahmad Jamal, Mulgrew Miller, and others.
Brent Jarvis follows in a tradition of lyrical, dynamic, and rhythmically complex piano players. Brent’s work has been described as: “captivating... a collaboration between the sensual and the intellectual... music that sparks the senses and transcends genres” (Laura Fernandez - JAZZ.FM91 Toronto), and "romantic but never cloying” (Katie Malloch - CBC Jazz Beat).
Brent studied music at the University of Toronto and Musicology at the University of Victoria. Brent has taught music at The Victoria Conservatory of Music, The University of Victoria, and Vancouver Island University, where he was Head of Jazz Piano and Department Chair.
Scott White is a virtuoso and multi-faceted bassist. He has performed with many of Canada's most renowned musicians, toured much of the world in various bands, and acted as music director for a Cirque du Soleil show in Germany. Scott contributes an enormous breadth of sound to any performance and approaches music collaboratively and with an appetite for discovery.
John Lee is a respected and acclaimed young jazz musician. In addition to his academic training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Lee was mentored by world-renowned jazz educators Dave Santoro, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ralph Peterson Jr., and John Clayton. As an artist, John Lee is known for his incredible proficiency as a multi-instrumentalist, as well as his ability to connect with audiences through his music and charisma.
