“Anyone who follows Melissa Aldana’s career might recognize generations of influences deep within her playing.” – Jazz Speaks

Chile’s Melissa Aldana was born into a musical family and soon proved to be a jazz prodigy, being the first female instrumentalist to win the coveted Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. She is also a recipient of the Martin E. Segal Award from Jazz at Lincoln Center and a double recipient of the Altazor Award, Chile’s highly prestigious national arts prize. After a scholarship to Berklee and some mentoring by Joe Lovano and George Coleman, Aldana emerged as a bold and thrilling new voice on tenor sax. Her three CDs have gotten rave reviews, including her 2016 release, Back Home, and her current trio has earned comparisons with Sonny Rollins. Aldana last appeared in Victoria at TD JazzFest 2014 for a sold-out Hermann’s Jazz Club debut. Her next album is set to release June 2019. Don’t miss this one!
